Armstrong Flooring Products has full-time openings on its Afternoon (2:15 pm to 10:30 pm) and  Night (10:15 pm to 6:30 am) shifts for Production Associates at our plant in Kankakee, Illinois.

 

In manufacturing resilient flooring tile, your work may involve the mixing of chemical compounds to form tiles, adding coloration, setting plant equipment that sizes, grinds, handles and transports tiles for the forming, shaping, heating, drying and packaging of tiles.

 

In our plant, we celebrate safety as our most important work standard and successful candidates must have a strong safety bias and attitude.  Our production associates work in a team environment and rotate through multiple positions.  We are looking for people who are flexible, who show initiative and who are motivated and interested in learning and have the demonstrated ability to be successful in a fast paced environment.

 

If you have an eye for color and understand how color hue consistency can impact the quality of products and fixing things at the root cause, this might be the right job for you.

This position will perform the following tasks:

  • Perform safety start up and shutdown of equipment
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly manner (5S)
  • Work with material utilizing computer controlled equipment
  • Input formulas for mixing of raw materials
  • Maintain appropriate levels of raw materials so that work processing runs continuously
  • Add in defined levels/weights of pigments and other raw materials for controlling color and appearance
  • Understand and adhere to daily production schedules
  • Properly grind and store materials for the sizing and grinding operations
  • Acquire mastery of the sizing systems components, limitations and use
  • Ensure that quality standards are achieved and rework is minimized
  • Move materials using a sit down fork lift truck
  • Communicate changes in conditions or operation effectively to other operators and supervisors
  • Function in a team-based environment with the ability to learn and perform essential job functions of multiple jobs within the team with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

 

Qualifications

  • 1 year of manufacturing experience operating machinery or equivalent military experience is preferred
  • A High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively; function in a team-based environment;  and perform essential job functions
  • Must be available to work any shift and overtime including overtime on short or no advance notice and weekends
  • Ability to lift 65 pound tile cartons floor to waist on a repetitive basis
  • Ability to perform basic math and operate a calculator
  • Must agree to follow safety guidelines and wear applicable safety equipment; e.g., safety glasses, side shields, approved safety shoes, and other PPE as needed
  • Candidates must be willing to submit to a post offer physical which includes a visual acuity test (color blind test), lifting test and drug screen

Our Kankakee Plant employs approximately 250 people working multiple shifts in the manufacture and shipment of vinyl-flooring tile.
