We are seeking a hands-on Human Resources Manager to provide both strategic and tactical HR leadership within our largest hardwood flooring facility in Beverly, West Virginia.  This opportunity serves as a key leader for a 650 person plant located near Elkins, West Virginia with responsibility for staffing, development, employee and labor relations by proactively identifying and implementing practices that continue to drive employee engagement and improved plant performance. The HR Manager will partner closely with plant leaders and the business unit’s HR team; ensure the Human Resources strategies and initiatives are tightly linked to the objectives and key challenges of the facility and the business, building employee engagement by driving the development and attainment of business strategies and plans through strategic HR planning, change management, organizational design and talent management.  This position reports directly to the Corporate Senior Labor and Employee Relations Business Partner with a strong dotted line to the Plant Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities:       

  • Lead and direct plant HR activities to support the achievement of plant performance metrics in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Productivity & People
  • Serve as a strategic business partner, developing plans in tandem with plant objectives and functional HR processes
  • Ensure the execution of key plant HR initiatives and processes to drive continuous improvement in all areas of Human Resources  to include organization effectiveness, staffing, employee relations, performance management, training and development, benefits, employment practices and legal compliance
  • Lead labor relations activities, including CBA negotiation, administration of grievance process, interpretation of contract, and coaching supervision on consistent application of plant policies and practices
  • Guide the Employee Relations strategy and manage overall culture at the plant to maintain a positive employee relations environment
  • Support organization change and continuous improvement efforts (such as Lean) and collaborate with plant leadership to ensure successful change management approaches through effective planning and analysis, communication of change initiatives, full and active leadership support and employee involvement
  • Provide counsel and coaching to all employees on a wide range of personnel matters
  • Track and analyze plant HR metrics to determine root cause and develop and execute action plans to address problem areas
  • Lead the talent management efforts including succession planning, competency development, process planning, career planning, retention efforts, and development activities across the plant
  • Support performance management initiatives and integrating balanced assessments, goal setting and development processes
  • Provide thorough and engaging orientation, on-boarding and employee communication processes in partnership with other lead team members
  • Advise and counsel managers and their staff on HR/employee issues and activities
  • Understand and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes governing HR processes
  • Understand and apply lean manufacturing concepts to HR systems and problem-solving
  • Support community activities and location grants/donations

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years of progressive HR leadership experience in a manufacturing organization with a strong emphasis in labor relations
  • Experience with recruitment, employee relations, compensation, performance management, talent management, organizational development and culture / engagement initiatives
  • Working knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws related to HR policies and practices
  • Experience leading and managing significant organizational change, organizational development and/or organizational effectiveness
  • Experience in developing and supporting high performing and/or semi-autonomous teams
  • Strong organizational skills to handle high volumes of work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment while maintaining excellent delivery and quality performance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities with a strong attention to detail, combined with a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, individually and in teams
  • Proven oral and written communications skills to convey information clearly and effectively. Solid listening skills to gather information for understanding
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, determine issues and objectives, and develop strategies to address needs
  • Ability to pivot focus effectively in response to business needs
  • Experience managing complex employee/labor relations situations
  • History of effectively coaching across levels and functions, including individuals in more senior roles than oneself
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office including Excel and PowerPoint

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • PHR/SPHR certification
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies to increase value to customers through elimination of non-value added work

 

About the Location (Beverly, WV):

 

With approximately 17 acres under roof, our Beverly Plant manufactures solid wood floor products and is the largest Kiln facility east of the Mississippi. It is one of the larger employers in the area with over 600 employees working multiple shifts in manufacture and shipment of our wood flooring products.

 

Located in the heart of West Virginia, Beverly is surrounded by beautiful mountain ridges, geological wonders, historic Civil War sites, state parks and national forest recreation areas. The town is also conveniently located within an hour's drive to some of the best ski resorts that West Virginia has to offer (Snow Shoe, Canaan Valley and Timberline).
